Bellator’s season 8 continues this Thursday with Bellator 93 from the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewsiton, Maine. The season 8 tournaments that Bellator has been holding in the Light Heavyweight, Featherweight, Welterweight and Middleweight divisions conclude at Bellator 94 and 95, so this is a warmup show. The headline fighter is a season 7 tournament final in the Lightweight division between Marcin Held and Dave Jansen. The main card, televised on SPIKETV, features heavyweight action including veterans Brett Rogers, Eric Prindle and Travis Wiuff.
Right now, the books have Jansen as a -160 favorite over Held, who returns +120, so it is a close fight.
Held is young and considered a bit of a protege back in his native Poland, and he has worked his way through the tournament showing toughness and skill. Jansen is a veteran who is entering his prime and must feel like it is his time to win, and the $100,000.00 bonus certainly would represent his biggest payday to date. Talent wise, they are about even, Jansen is the favorite due to the intangible of experience.
In the heavyweight fights, Travis Wiuff is a -230 favorite over Ryan Martinez (+170) and Brett Rogers is a -185 favorite over Eric Prindle, who returns +145. Martinez is a big puncher who is likely to have trouble with Wiuff’s wrestling and control. Wiuff will likely control position and do enough damage to win a decision, as neither is a big finisher unless it is with punches. Prindle and Rogers has the potential to be explosive and fast, as Rogers is a big man who throws heavy leather and after going 2-5-1 in his last 8 outings, Rogers is a man in need of a win. Prindle is a good athlete but has had some questionable pull outs and in ring performances. Rogers should pull this one out once Prindle loses his initial head of steam.
