Bills Rookie QB E.J. Manuel To Get Tough Test Against Panthers Front Seven

Today Bills rookie QB E.J. Manuel will get a tough test against a very solid Panthers defense who’s front seven could give him trouble all game. The rookie fared well enough in his first NFL game against the Patriots, but most of their points came via turn overs. The Bills will need to play much tougher against a Panthers team hungry for a week two win.

E.J. Manuel in his first start went 18 – 27 for 150 yards, two touchdowns, and maybe most importantly no interceptions. A 105.5 QB rating for your first start in the NFL is no joke, the young man certainly showed his upside on a team that has been desperate for a QB for what seems like forever.

Running back C.J. Spiller is expected to have a big year but flopped in his first game this season with just a 2.4 yards per a carry rushing 17 times for just 41 yards. Fred Jackson the bruiser of the two had a much better game with 13 carries 67 yards, good for a 5.2 yard per carry average.

Buffalo will certainly need to get better at converting on 3rd down and stopping opponents from converting as they went just 4/13 on third down conversions and allowed the Patriots to convert 11 out of 20 of their own. The Bills also showed a lack of serious playmakers outside of Steve Johnson who had 3 catches for 39 yards and a touchdown. Although Robert Woods one catch for an 18 yard touchdown was promising they will need more from C.J. Spiller this season who is a threat to score when he has the ball in space.

The Carolina Panthers had a rough first week losing a game 12-7 that they very well should have won. A red zone fumble by Deangelo Williams was a drive stopper that could have cost them the came. QB Cam Newton had trouble making any big plays going 16 – 23 for just 125 yards but did complete 69.6% of his passes. While it’s apparent WR Steve Smith who had 6 catches for 51 yards and a touchdown is still a playmaker, there is still a huge void for a number two option in Carolina.

The Panthers do have a good ground game in DeAngelo Williams who had 17 rushes for 86 yards for a great 5.1 yards per carry but he can not afford to cough up the rock like he did twice last week, especially so in the red zone costing points

This could be a close game and the Carolina Panthers defensive front could play a big part against the Buffalo Bills. Carolina has a solid front seven and they could make this a long day for the Buffalo Bills rookie QB E.J. Manuel. I also look for Panthers QB Cam Newton to have a better game so take the Panthers against the spread for this contest.
