The upcoming Saturday will feature four bowl games, and two of them will be featured here. There’s also a Monday afternoon pre-Christmas bowl to look at as well.
2013 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Buffalo Bulls vs. San Diego State Aztecs
Saturday, 5:35 PM ET
College Football Betting Odds: Buffalo -1.5
This game is a study in contrasts. San Diego State is particularly good on offense while being weak on defense. Buffalo is strong on defense and sets up its opportunities on that side of the ball, with linebacker Khalil Mack being one of the most disruptive and imposing linebackers in the country. The Mid-American Conference almost put a team (Northern Illinois) into the BCS this season, but Buffalo doesn’t seem to be in Northern Illinois’ class, and the Bulls don’t figure to be able to keep pace with San Diego State in this game. The Aztecs should be able to win a football betting shootout. Their offense should be able to move the ball with great consistency.
Pick: San Diego State +1.5
2013 New Orleans Bowl
Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns vs. Tulane Green Wave
Saturday, 9:05 PM ET
College Football Betting Odds: Tulane -2
This game should be a very emotional one. Tulane plays its home games in the stadium where this contest will be staged, the Louisiana Superdome. As for Louisiana-Lafayette, the Ragin’ Cajuns are playing in the New Orleans Bowl for the third straight year. They don’t have to travel very far for their bowl game, and what’s more is that they’ve won this bowl the previous two seasons. Both teams should be happy to play in this game. It should be a true reflection of how good these teams are. Tulane’s offense will have to score a lot in order to win this game. The feeling here is that the Green Wave will fall short, and that Louisiana-Lafayette will pull away in the fourth quarter. It’s hard to bet against ULL, given that it has enjoyed such pronounced success in this game, while Tulane is an unproven bowl team that will be new to the postseason spotlight.
Pick: Louisiana-Lafayette +2
2013 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl
East Carolina Pirates vs. Ohio Bobcats
Monday, 2:05 PM ET
College Football Betting Odds: East Carolina -14
This game could very realistically provide a scenario in which Ohio – a team that was a touchdown underdog in its 2012 bowl game, but blew out Louisiana-Monroe in the Independence Bowl – could once again surprise everyone. The Bobcats have had a month to regroup for this game, and that could make them sharper than they were in the month of November. Ohio has played well in recent bowl games, and that reality has to be given a measure of respect.
Yet, East Carolina was embarrassed in its regular season finale against Marshall. The Pirates have their own business to tend to, and their passing game should be able to find plenty of openings in Ohio’s secretary. East Carolina’s speed on the perimeter should be too much for Ohio to overcome. The fact that this game is being played in a dome should enable ECU’s passing game to dominate and cover the spread.
Pick: East Carolina -14
