Boxing News: Tyson Fury Is Back…..

Britian’s Tyson Fury has won the media war with David Haye and moved on. He fights February 15th in England.

British Heavyweight Tyson Fury will box Argentinian veteran Gonzalo Omar Basile (61-8) at London’s Copper Box arena on February 15th. For Fury, who at 21-0 has aspirations of a World Title, it is a return to the ring more to stay busy than anything else, as his big hype clash with David Haye has fallen through. Also on the card is Dereck Chisora, who will be taking on Kevin Johnson. The event may be a portent of things to come, as there is talk of a potential Fury-Chisora matchup for this summer.

Fury was working towards a big fight with countryman David Haye. The smack talk between the two was epic, and Fury ratcheted up the rhetoric after Haye postponed the fight due to an injury.

Look for Fury to be a huge betting favorite against Basile. Basile is a veteran fighter with a spotty record who is heading into his 70th fight. He is not expected to challenge the bigger, stronger and younger Fury, especially taking the fight in about 3 weeks notice.

The main event of the card is Dereck Chisora, who is in a fight with Kevin Johnson with a few marginal Heavyweight titles on the line.  Chisora is also not one to be shy with the media, as he is most famous for crashing the Klitschko-Haye weigh ins a few years back. Despite a maudlin career, he strung together a winning streak of 4 fights and has remolded his name enough that the match with Fury could be for a decent paycheck in Britain.

The card at the Copper Box will be interesting, especially if the two cross paths and start the gums flapping.  Despite Fury carefully trying to re-work his image after his disastrous appearance in New York where his act failed to impress on a big level, he is unlikely to be able to control himself in front of his hometown fans.
