Cardinals Will Be No Easy Task For Lions In Week Two
The Arizona Cardinals finally have a legitimate QB in Carson Palmer and they will be no easy out for the Detroit Lions who look to improve to 2-0 this season. The Lions won by double digit points against the Vikings last week while the Cardinals dropped a game they could have won against the Rams if the protection for Palmer held up.
Carson Palmer was quietly very effective last week going 26-40 for 327 yards, and two touchdowns. How quickly Larry Fitzgerald looked like the best receiver in the league again with the addition of Palmer. With his new QB throwing to him Fitzgerald had 8 catches for 80 yards and two scores.
The running game was simply not moving for the Cardinals and this made the protection for Palmer even more difficult as the Rams did not have to fear Rashard Mendenhall who had 16 carries for only 60 yards. Still, even in the loss the Cardinals have a lot to be excited about this season including going 50% on third down conversion last week converting 7 out of 14 times.
The Detroit Lions offense played great last week putting them in the top four of just about every offensive category. The addition of running back Reggie Bush appears to have been a great one as they finally have a running game with a pulse and an explosive check down target for QB Matthew Stafford. Bush ran 21 times for 90 yards and had an impressive 4 catches for 101 yards and a score.
Stafford went 28-43 for 357 yards and two touchdowns spreading the ball around nicely connecting with eight different targets. The defense was really solid getting to the opposing QB for three sacks and allowing the Vikings to convert only twice on ten third down conversion attempts.
This is a really tough match to call as the lines makers would agree with it being very close to a pick’em match-up. I really like the Arizona Cardinals this year but the Detroit Lions defensive front maybe too much for the Cards who have a shoddy offensive line. Take the Lions on the road in what could be a very good game.
