Cleveland Browns Take High Risk For Possible Big Reward In Barkevious Mingo
Because of his frame scouts view the Cleveland Browns sixth selection in the 2013 NFL Draft Barkevious Mingo as a high risk but possible big reward. His lean frame has been said to be too small to handle the DE position against huge offensive tackles in the league , so it will look as if Mingo will make his impact pass rushing from an outside linebacker position.
Barkevious Mingo registered 38 tackles in his final college season, 8.5 of them for a loss, and 4.5 sacks. Mingo is 6’4” weighing 241 lbs and is quite often compared to Cowboys elite pass rusher Demarcus Ware. It remains to be seen if he will have that amount of success , however there Is no denying the pass rushing ability of Mingo.
His mother did not want him playing football at a young age, but the young Mingo was simply too athletic and good to be taken out of football. Despite his slender (by NFL standards) frame Mingo does not shy away from contact, and will take on a tackle head up, push away with his long arms and reach out to grab a running back trying to hit one of his gaps.
Considered a hit or miss type of defensive talent, Barkevious Mingo has an explosive first step, and crazy straight line speed to become a pass rushing presence in the league. His ability to find the ball in the backfield and get to the carrier could make him a presence on every down and the Browns certainly hope they found a cornerstone of their defense.
