Saturday is always a big day in the world of college basketball betting lines. These three games will take center stage – especially with a pair of Top 25 matchups.
No. 22 Kansas State Wildcast @ No. 16 Iowa State Cyclones
Odds: Iowa State -9
The Wildcats are trying to bounce back from an upset at Texas, although it might not be considered an upset because the Longhorns might actually be a good team. Meanwhile, the Cyclones have lost three in a row allowing 86 and 87 points in two of those games. This will be a game of offense against defense as KSU is 15th in the country in points allowed, while ISU is sixth in points scored.
Kansas State has won six of their last 10 meetings with the Cyclones overall but ISU has won three of the last four between these two Big 12 teams. The two have split their last 10 at Iowa State, but in this matchup, solid defense combined with a home-court edge (ISU have already beaten two then-ranked teams in their building) sways the game towards the Cyclones.
Pick: Iowa State
No. 4 Villanova Wildcats @ Marquette Golden Eagles
Odds: Villanova -3
‘Nova got ripped by 28 at home by unranked Creighton, seemingly getting on track after a big loss at Syracuse just before New Year’s, and this is the beginning of a crucial stretch for the Wildcats as their next three games are on the road at Marquette, Georgetown and Temple. Villanova is 92nd in the country in points allowed, so the defense can be suspect, and this game could be a good one to get them back on track as Marquette is 209th in points scored. The Golden Eagles went to OT in their last two games, falling at Butler and winning at Georgetown.
The Wildcats have won six of the last 10 between the two, but have lost three of their last four at Marquette. It’ll be close but the Wildcats will pull it out in Milwaukee in this Big East battle.
No. 21 Michigan Wolverines @ No. 4 Michigan State Spartans
Odds: Spartans -5
The Wolverines have rattled off eight straight wins, but they’re still a half-game behind their Big Ten rivals from Michigan State, who are also unbeaten in conference play. The Spartans have run into some bad luck as forward Branden Dawson broke his hand hitting a table in frustration and MSU will be without their leading rebounder for 4-5 weeks. Michigan is coming off massive wins at Wisconsin (their first win in Madison since 1999) and at home against Iowa, and forward Nik Stauskas has been shooting the lights out, scoring 21 or more in his last three games.
The Spartans have won six of their last 10 against UM, and eight of the last nine in East Lansing. Michigan’s leading rebounder, Mitch McGary, is also out and the Wolverines may not be able to take advantage of MSU’s injuries up front (Adreian Payne). The Spartans also seem to have Michigan’s number at Breslin Center as well, so stick with the home team in this college basketball betting matchup.
Pick: Michigan State
