Take a good look at the college football betting totals for Friday night’s pair of college football matchups as none of the four teams on the schedule are ranked higher than 72nd when it comes to points allowed. It kicks off with Florida International (100th) visiting Florida Atlantic (81st) while Hawaii (123rd) takes on Air Force (72nd). These are the type of defenses that make opposing offenses look good, so you could be in for a couple of “over” picks when it comes to the totals, which will go very well with a spread bet.
Florida International Golden Panthers @ Florida Atlantic Owls
The Golden Panthers snapped a seven-game skid and won their first Sun Belt game with a 28-20 victory at South Alabama, another 2-8 team. The 3-7 Owls aren’t much better, although they’ve now won two of their last three after downing Western Kentucky 37-28 on the road. Florida International enters this rivalry game as a 1.5-point underdog on the road after ending their five-game losing streak against Atlantic last season, but you never know how teams will react to a rivalry game and that could actually spark the defense on both sides, although it’s more likely that the offense will receive more of a boost. Atlantic is 3-0 at home against International, so that is another aspect of this game that is going against the Golden Panthers. Neither team is getting into a bowl game at this point, so pride is all they have left and playing against a state rival can bring the best out in some players.
Pick: Over 51.5
Hawaii Warriors @ Air Force Falcons
The Warriors have now lost seven in a row after getting routed 49-14 at home by Boise State, and Hawaii has never been known as a defensive powerhorse, but at least they used to be able to score points. Not only are the Warriors near the bottom of the points-against rankings, but they’re only 112th in points scored and you can see why Hawaii is 1-8 and winless in the Mountain West. The Falcons are a win away from bowl eligibility, but they’ve now dropped two straight after falling 28-9 at San Diego State. This is going to be their best chance to reach that magic six-win mark, and the Falcons are playing at home, where they have won four of five in 2012, while the Warriors are 0-5 on the road and usually get blown out. Hawaii struggles against most of the nation on their best day, but how well will they be able to handle the triple-option offense that has led Air Force to second in the country in rushing yards? This is the first time that these two have met since 2001, when Hawaii earned their first win in three attempts against Air Force, but this game doesn’t look too good for the Warriors, who are 21.5-point underdogs and that is probably being generous; this is one of the worst NCAA football betting teams we’ve seen in a while.
