The Louisville Cardinals will be playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference next season and it just so happens that one ACC team is the Cardinals’ next opponent in the Russell Athletic Bowl. Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater grew up in Miami and now he’ll try to thwart them in this intriguing football betting matchup.
Miami Hurricanes vs. Louisville Cardinals
Saturday, December 28 – 6:45 PM ET
Odds: Louisville -3.5
The Louisville Cardinals did not win the American Athletic Conference this season, but they did win 11 games, which is not easy to do in any season. The Cardinals’ defense was the stronger side of the ball for head coach Charlie Strong’s team. Louisville was able to win several games when its offense didn’t play very well. The Cardinals had their moments on offense, but they really didn’t perform as consistently as a lot of observers expected. Louisville defeated Houston, Memphis, Connecticut, and other teams without getting nearly as much production as they could have from its offense. The one game in which Louisville’s defense fell apart was the team’s one loss of the season, to UCF. Louisville played a strong game on defense against the Knights for two and a half quarters, but the Cardinals then collapsed in the final 20 minutes of the game and lost the one game they needed to win in order to make a BCS bowl. UCF won the American Athletic Conference, and that’s why Louisville is playing in this game.
The Cardinals’ opponent is a Miami team that did not measure up against the other top teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season. The Hurricanes lost decisively to Florida State, Duke, and Virginia Tech, stumbling in November after doing so well in September and October. The Hurricanes will view this game as an opportunity to do something significant this season, and they’ll be facing a player – Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater – who grew up in Miami. Expect emotions to run high on both sides, which means the more credentialed team, Louisville, should probably be able to win.
Pick: Louisville -3.5
