College Football Betting: New Year’s Day Bowl Previews & Picks

New Year’s Day is always full day for college football betting fans and Tuesday is no exception. There are six games on the radar including our first BCS games of the season.

Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Northwestern Wildcats

Tuesday, 12:00 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: Northwestern -1

The Wildcats have lost nine straight bowl games, which is tied for the longest skid ever. They’ll need to depend on their ground game to take down the Bulldogs, who lost four of their last five regular-season games (although two of those were at Alabama and LSU). Northwestern’s streak ends at the Gator Bowl as they win and cover on the college football betting odds.

Pick: Northwestern -1

Purdue Boilermakers vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Tuesday, 12:00 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: Oklahoma State -17

Neither defense is that special, so you’ll probably see a high-scoring Heart of Dallas Bowl at the Cotton Bowl. That favors Oklahoma State for the outright victory, but the Cowboys’ defense may not be able to hold off Purdue, who should be able to at least cover 17 points.

Pick: Purdue +17

Georgia Bulldogs vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers

Tuesday, 1:00 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: Georgia -8.5

This edition of the Capitol One Bowl features two teams that have lost two straight bowl games, but you know the Bulldogs have to be a little bitter about being passed over for a BCS title game after barely losing to Alabama in the SEC title game. The Cornhuskers also have a brutal run defense that will be their downfall.

Pick: Georgia -8.5

South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Michigan Wolverines

Tuesday, 1:00 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: South Carolina -5

The action continues at the Outback Bowl in another Big Ten-SEC matchup, and Michigan might have trouble scoring on one of the best defenses in the country. However, the Wolverines’ “D” isn’t that bad either, and this could end up being a low-scoring, hard-hitting affair that is decided by a field goal.

Pick: Michigan +5

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Stanford Cardinal

Tuesday, 5:00 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: Stanford -6.5

Stanford is back in the Rose Bowl, also known as the “Granddaddy of Them All”, for the first time since 2000 when they lost to Wisconsin, who are in Pasadena for the third straight season. However, the Badgers are only in it because of Ohio State’s violations and Stanford is as solid a team as you’ll find in the NCAA.

Pick: Stanford -6.5

Northern Illinois Huskies vs. Florida State Seminoles

Tuesday, 8:30 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: Florida State -13

The night ends with the Orange Bowl as the disappointing Seminoles should have their hands full with a team that was one point from being undefeated during the regular season. Florida State has the talent to dominate this game but over the past couple seasons, they’ve played down to their opponents – or simply choked in big games. This is a huge game for both programs but NIU will surprise some “experts” and keep it close.

Pick: Northern Illinois +13
