College Football Betting: Saturday Picks

You are going to have plenty of good college football games to choose from this weekend. The stakes are getting higher around the country, which should create even better action on the field.

Florida Gators @ Missouri Tigers

Saturday, 12:21 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: Florida -3

This game should feature a lot of defense and very little offense. For one thing, Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy struggled this past weekend on the road against an LSU defense that had performed quite poorly through the first six weeks of the season. Murphy’s youth and relative inexperience showed up in a big way against LSU, so when Murphy faces Missouri’s above-average pass rush, it will be hard to expect him to do well. Florida’s offense might not find a way around Missouri’s speed.

On the other side of the coin, Missouri’s offense probably won’t do much against Florida’s defense. The Tigers lost their starting quarterback, James Franklin, to an injury against Georgia this past Saturday. Franklin is out for at least three weeks if not more, meaning that backup Maty Mauk is going to be the starter against Florida. If there was ever a defense that can feast on a young quarterback making his first start of the season, it’s Florida’s. The Gators are well schooled on defense and can make this a very long day for Mauk. That’s probably what will give Florida the victory in a close, low-scoring game.

Pick: Florida -3

USC Trojans @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Saturday, 7:40 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: Notre Dame -3

This is a game that is likely to be close all the way. USC and Notre Dame are both average teams. That’s the reality surrounding this classic intersectional rivalry. Neither the Trojans nor the Irish possess much of any consistency on either side of the ball. USC’s defense got ripped apart by Arizona State, while Notre Dame’s defense was obliterated by Oklahoma’s not-very-good offense. USC and Notre Dame, while playing poorly on defense at times, have also wobbled on offense on multiple occasions this season – USC against Washington State and Utah State; Notre Dame against Purdue and Michigan State. All in all, this is a very hard game to read, but when you analyze the Trojans and the Irish, you’ll notice that Arizona State is a common opponent for these two teams. Notre Dame adjusted to ASU’s offense and held it down, whereas USC looked completely lost against the Sun Devils. That comparison suggests that Notre Dame will do what it takes to score a close college football betting win at home.

Pick: Notre Dame -3

LSU Tigers @ Ole Miss Rebels

Saturday, 7:05 PM ET

College Football Betting Odds: LSU -7.5

This is a game in which the two offenses should have a field day. LSU’s defense should give Ole Miss’ offense many chances to score. Yet, LSU’s offense has been so good this season that the Tigers’ defensive problems have usually not mattered very much. Ole Miss might score a lot in this game, but LSU will score more. Ole Miss will cover the spread, but LSU will get the victory.

Pick: Ole Miss +7.5
