Air Force Falcons head to Navy this Saturday after bowling over Tennessee State 63-24 last week but as always we expect things to be close and tight this week when these two sides meet. Navy enters the game after hanging tough with very good South Carolina team two weeks ago. Saturday the two will meet at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in an early 9:00 AM Pacific start with the Midshipmen coming in as a -3.5 point favorite with a posted Total of 53.5 at BetDSI Sportsbook.
While the Air Force defense has been beat up by recent injuries but the same can be said of Navy even though they had the bye break last week.
The Falcons have a powerful running option and seem to have an edge here. Both teams run well, it is just that Air Force does so a little better, and neither team is all that stout defending the ground but again, the Falcons look to have the better side there as well despite injuries. I also like the element of surprise that Falcons WR Zack Kauth brings to this game as he may be the only real deep threat in the game. A concern is Air Force recent case of ‘fumblitis’ so far – having dropped the ball 9 times in just three games – but that tends to be a random case rather than something Navy can count on.
There really isn’t much separating these two teams and the +3.5 is highly attractive with Air Force winning last season and the Midshipmen rebuilding this year. Head-to-head Navy had won 7 straight prior to last season but the margin of victory in those games was just 3 points four times, while 2 others were decided by a touchdown or less. Clearly this is a close, hard-fought rivalry game and this season looks to be no different.
I like Air Force to be strong on the ground here and get the outright win for a second consecutive year – but the +3.5 at BetDSI Sportsbook is a nice cushion that I’ll take. Go Air Force Falcons!
