In an odd move considering the good momentum he is having right now, the goalkeeper Fernando Muslera signed with the Galatasay from Turkey for a five -year contract at €6.75 million (£6m).
A statement on the Galatasaray website says: ”Professional football player Nestor Fernando Muslera has signed a contract for the 2011-12 season, for five seasons. Accordingly, €2 million will be paid to him every season.”
Muslera has played for Lazio (Italy) since 2007 when he was signed from Nacional (Uruguay) and now he will do play for Turkey. The strange situation is that Muslera is having an amazing Copa America tournament, saving balls you can’t believe and being the star player for Uruguay; meaning I was thinking he’ll probably jump to a bigger stage and to a bigger team, but he did the oppisite moving to Turkey.
The Uruguay international goalkeeper worked out a long-term deal where he will take € 2m (£1.8m) a year, and will take over the starting position from Aykut Ercetin.
Muslera needs to stay focused on the Copa America tournament as Uruguay advanced to the final by beating Peru 2-0 in the semifinals. Fernando was the key player for Uruguay in the earlier series against Argentina where he step up with a tremendous performance.
