Defending Champion Baltimore Ravens Take On enver Broncos To Start The NFL Season

What a first 2013 NFL match-up to kickoff the season with the defending champion Baltimore Ravens traveling to Mile High to take on the Denver Broncos in what could be another playoff showdown in the future.

What a magical year for both these teams last season but none more so than the Baltimore Ravens where future HoF linebacker Ray Lewis retired with a championship. QB Joe Flacco shut up naysayers with a ring, and running back Ray Rice put up another explosive year to add to his resume.

There will be some noticeable differences in the Ravens roster when they step on the field to take the Broncos. With aforementioned Ray Lewis retired and safety Ed Reed having been picked up in free agency by the Texans the Ravens will be much changed this season. They also didn’t manage to keep Lewis’ heir apparent as Daniel Ellerbe was swooned by the Miami Dolphins. Regardless with all that said the Ravens still have an explosive offense grounded by a top QB talent in the league and one of the best running backs in the league.

The Denver Broncos also had a stellar year which saw them battle the Ravens in the playoffs for a spot in the Super Bowl in a legendary playoff game. QB Peyton Manning made the Broncos look like geniuses in pursuing him and dumping off Tim Tebow in the off season as he came back from injury and played MVP consideration type football.

Training camp and preseason has been rough so far on the Broncos as they have had a bunch of injuries to key players including Camp Bailey, Wes Welker, and Louis Vaquez. They will hope to be at full strength come season with what they expected to be an explosive offense. The defense may skip a beat as they lost pass rushing specialist Elvis Dumervil in a free agency fallout, and linebacker Von Miller going through legal troubles.

We could not have asked for a better match-up to start the NFL season , this will be a battle. I do believe the Denver Broncos will win at home but the line being so high I am going to have to take the Ravens and the points. Hey it worked during last season’s playoffs and Super Bowl !
