Despite Tough Season For Giants Matt Cain Giants Still Sizable Favorites Against Diamondbacks

Today the San Francisco Giants and Matt Cain will host the Arizona Diamondbacks and Wade Miley. Despite Matt Cain having a tough season the Giants are still sizable favorites at home against Miley and the Diamondbacks.

Matt Cain is 5-6 on the season but even worse he has a 5.06 ERA leaving many to speculate what the problem is. In 2012 Cain was 16-5 with a 2.79 ERA , seems like a long time ago as he has been lit up a few times this year. He has lost 3 out of his last 4 games and the game before his last one he was knocked around for 8 runs in just two innings.

The Giants do move the bats well with catcher Buster Posey hitting .324 , 13 home runs, and 57 RBIs. Second baseman Marco Scutaro is putting in another solid season hitting .313, while right fielder Hunter Pence leading the team with 14 homers. Brandon Belt and Posey are hitting .444 and .455 respectively over their last three games Posey with 5 hits and Belt with 4.

Arizona Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley is 6-7 on the season with a 4.01 ERA, and has won his last two starts. Two starts ago against Colorado he gave up just 5 hits over 8 innings for just one run, in his latest performance he gave up 3 runs over 8 innings for the win against the Brewers.

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt is tearing the cover off the ball this season with a .309 average, 21 home runs, and 77 RBI’s. Nobody on the Diamondbacks have been moving the bat well lately, in their last three games only Miguel Montero has been steady with five hits, two home runs, two RBI’s, and two walks. Didi Gregorius and Jason Kubel have both hit a homer in the last three games, apart from that the offensive output for Arizona hasn’t been.

I look for the Arizona Diamondbacks to pick up their offense tonight against Matt Cain who has struggled often this season. The price is just too good for the Diamondbacks to pass up against a Cain who I feel could get lit up any game he plays this season.
