Detroit Tigers Need A Win Against Blue Jays To Fend Off Heel Nipping Indians

The Detroit Tigers really need a win tonight against the Toronto Blue Jays to fend off the Cleveland Indians who are nipping at their heels for control of the AL Central. However a win for Detroit will not come easy on the road against Toronto ace R.A. Dickey.

R.A. Dickey has had trouble with consistency this season with a 7-8 record and a 4.72 ERA he has not been lights-outs. He is however coming off a great performance throwing a six inning shutout allowing just two hits and striking out six against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Right Fielder Rajal Davis has been hitting the ball really well at the plate for the Blue Jays in the last week batting . 381 with 8 hits, two base on balls, and has five stolen bases. Outfielder Jose Bautista has been tearing the cover off the ball with 7 hits including 3 homeruns and 7 RBI’s in the past seven days.

Taking the hill for the Detroit Tigers will be Jose Alvarez coming out of rehab. Alvarez has pitched well for the Tigers in his only three starts this season with a 3.78. Alvarez is 1-1 on the year allowing just 15 hits in his 16.2 innings however has given up 4 homeruns in just three games.

There is just no better hitter in the league than Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera. Over the past week the Tigers slugger has 10 hits, 5 home runs, 7 RBI’s hitting .417. Victor Martinez is showing he can still wave the stick at his age with 7 hits in the past week. Big hitter Prince Fielder went 2-3 with a homer , two RBI’s, and two runs scored against the Rays last Friday.

The Toronto Blue Jays and their starter R.A. Dickey have been too inconsistent for me to back them against the hard hitting Detroit Tigers. Miguel Cabrera can take over any game with his bat and Detroits starter Alvarez is not a bad pitcher at all. I look for the Detroit Tigers to win this one tonight over the Jays.
