East Carolina Pirates Take On The Weber State Wildcats For The CIT Championship
Tonight we will have a crowned College Insider Tournament champion at the conclusion of the match-up between the East Carolina Pirates vs the Weber State Wildcats. Having won 17 of their last 18 the Wildcats are a large favorite over the Pirates.
Finishing the season 18-2 the Weber State Wildcats finished second in the Big Sky division losing 67-64 in the championship game against Montana who won it for the third time in four years. Weber State’s recent victory to get them to the CIT final was a 59-56 W over Northern Iowa where the Wildcats shot had to win behind strong defense after only shooting 39.6% from the floor and hitting only 7 of 22 from behind the arc.
Leading the Wildcats in scoring was Junior Guard/Forward Davion Berry who had 15 total points on a rough night hitting just 4-15 from the floor, 2-8 from three point range, and made 5 of 7 from the foul line. The Weber bench also didn’t help out at all with only 4 combined points with two players making a basket a piece.
East Carolina have won 7 of their last 8 and have been scoring a bunch of points in the process scoring below 70 in just one of those games. Their last tournament victory came 81-58 against Evansville where the Pirates shot effectively hitting 55.4% of their shots from the floor. East Carolina was +1 in turnovers in a game with only 17 total between the two teams.
The Pirates leading scorer against Evansville was Forward Maurice Kemp putting up 20 on 10-17 shooting and making 12 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Forward Robert Sampson had a big game shooting 5-5 from the floor and notching 11 total points while leading his team in rebounds with 11. Guard Miguel Paul was second in scoring with 19 total points on 7-11 shooting and 3-5 from downtown.
This is a tough match to call because Weber State is the better team on paper but East Carolina can put up some points. I believe the Weber State Wildcats take this one over the East Carolina Pirates but do not cover the eight point spread. Take the Pirates and the points.
