Georges St Pierre, the UFC’s to draw, defends his Welterweight title this weekend against Johnny Hendricks.

The long awaited UFC 167 card is set for next Saturday, November 16th with the welterweight title fight between champion Georges St Pierre and Johny Hendricks.  Right now, St Pierre sits as a (-240) favorite, with the comeback on ‘Big Rig’ sitting at (+200).  The co-main event of Chael Sonnen and Rashad Evans sits with Evans as a close favorite, while the Rory MacDonald versus Robbie Lawler match may have la live underdog in the case of Lawler.

At this point, if you like St Pierre, that is fine but Hendricks is a credible threat.  It is probably only a coincidence, but Hendricks has a lot in common with Matt Serra, in that they are both stocky grapplers who have explosive punching power.   Hendricks, with his wrestling and gas that sees him retain power later in fights, is in fact like a Serra version 2.0, which might be just what is needed to take out St Pierre.

If Hendricks cannot take out St Pierre, up next for the champion might be the winner of the Rory MacDonald versus Robbie Lawlor bout.   MacDonald is a heavy (-350) favorite over Lawlor, who returns (+250).  Lawlor has been extremely focused since returning to the UFC, and after a career of competing at a high level at Middleweight, he is unlikely to be affected by MacDonald’s size and length.  Lawlor’s KO power is nearly unmatched in the division, and MacDonald has had a tendency to get boring and methodical in his approach.  Underdog alert.

The Evans-Sonnen fight sits with a close line at the books, as Sonnen is the ‘dog at (+155) with Evans paying (-175).  The two men meet at 205 lbs despite the talk of both men making their way to the Middleweight division.  Even with a win, Evans is likely best suited to be heading to Middleweight.  Of course for Sonnen, after this fight he heads to Brazil to film the reality show ‘Ultimate Fighter Brazil’ and build up his forthcoming fight with Wanderlei Silva.  So even if he loses, we already know when we will get our next dosage of Chael Sonnen.
