The first tournament is in the rooster to featherweight division, and the favorite to win is Samir Chantre at (+110). Chantre, who is a Brazilian based out of Modesto, California, has won several important grapplig competitions since 2009, and he is comfortable fighting with or without the gi.
The rest of the field features solid competitiors that are worth watching. Laercio Fernandes (+225) and Gabriel Moraes (+300) have left Rafael Freitas (+750), who has had success in competition but failed to break thru and win a title, as the longshot.
The favorite in the Medium Heavy weight class is the fabulous Keenan Cormelius. Cornelius has been collecting gold medals in the toughest BJJ competitions in the world and he sits at (+150). Jackson De Souza (+220) , Diego Gamonal (+300) and Roberto De Alencar (+450) round out a field that is tighter than the Rooster weight class.
Gustavo Dos Santos Pires (+120) is the favorite in the Super Heavyweight division. He will face a close challenge from Ricardo Evangelista (+180), and the field is rounded out by veterans Marcio Cruz (+450) and Eduardo Telles (+600).
In a competition like this, where the differences in the skill sets of all the men are differentiated only by details and nuances, it is really wide open and anything can happen. Even a competitor who is a heavy underdog could conceivably score points early and stall to hold on for the victory. Sometimes it bares fruit to know which competitors are aggressive and might come out strong. Another thing to watch is for competitors who get through the first match quickly. A fresher fighter in the finals could break throug hand take out a guy who is favored. Well worth watching, enjoy the betting action at DSI.
