Santos versus Coenen for the INVICTA Featherweight title in July

The all women’s MMA promotion INVICTA has scheduled their 6th event for July 13th, at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City.  The event is headlined by the Featherweight title bout between Marloes Coenen and Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino, has 12 additional fights scheduled and will air on PPV over the internet.  Despite a budget that is only a fraction of the UFC’s, Invicta continues to put together compelling cards with athletes from all over the world.  Invicta has 5 weight class operational, and the shows just keep getting better and better.

The planned 6th event should easily be the biggest in the group’s history, as Coenen vs ‘Cyborg’ is a legit match up for the 145 lb Featherweight Title.  The two women have met before, with ‘Cyborg’ coming out on top, so look for the sportsbooks to open the line with ‘Cyborg’ heavily favored, however Coenen has been in the MMA game for more than a decade and is a very savvy competitor.

Also in play will be the 115 lb Strawweight title as Carla Esparza meets Ayaka Hamasaki.  Esparza has a 9-2 losses, with her two losses coming to Megumi Fujii and Jessica Aguilar, perhaps the top 2 women in the weight class.  Meanwhile Hasmasaki is 9-0 as a pro but has a slew of amateur experience fighting in the ranks at SHOOTO and JEWELS in Japan, and she has remained undefeated throughout.  Last May, she made short work of the very tough Yuka Tsuji, and she won her lone Invicta appearance late in the fight with an armbar.  Look for a close to pick ‘em fight, with Hamasaki probably the slight favorite.

In the 105 lb Atomweight division, former Champion Jessica Penne looks to bounce back after dropping her title at INVICTA 5 as she takes on veteran Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc.

In the 135 lb Bantamweight class, Invicta has Sara D’Alelio on the card taking on undefeated Lauren Taylor.  D’Alelio has reeled off several wins in a row under the Invicta flag, and Taylor won her debut.  This has to be a qualifier type of match for a future title shot for the winner, and should be another close to pick ‘em fight.

The Invicta cards are worth watching and supporting.  Get more details on the event at www.invictafc.com, and as the event gets closer, check out the books for the lines on these fights.
