‘Cyborg’ Santos and Marloes Coenen will face off July 13th for INVICTA’s Featherweight title.

The UFC has started to ramp up their 135 lb women’s division with the most recent debut’s coming at UFC 161 when Rosi Sexton lost a 3 round decision to Alexis Davis.  Sexton, known as ‘The Surgeon’ was extremely game and showed the need to expand the weight classes in the Ladies division.  While the UFC continues to lamely say there s not enough talent, the INVICTA all women’s MMA group contines to prove them wrong.  Invicta returns with their sixth offering on July 13th, from the Ameristar Casino Hotel with a card headlined by Dutch submission ace Marloes Coenen  taking on the feared Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ in a featherweight title match (145 lbs).

The card was to feature a Strawweight title (115 lbs) bout but the titleholder, Carla Esparza suffered an injury and had to pull out of the match against undefeated Japanese protege Ayaka Hamasaki.  Hamasaki remains on the card, now facing Claudia Gadelha, an athlete with an identical 9-0 record to hers.

Thje former champion at Atomweight (105 lbs), Jessica Penne faces Nicdali Rivera Calanoc in a bout that Penne will be favored in.  Coming off a loss, and a title loss, it will be intersting to see her focus and aggressiveness.  Nicdali has a lot of fights and is a game veteran, but she will be the underdog in this match.  The lighter weight divisions at INVICTA however, are loaded with talent.

When the odds come out, they will have ‘Cyborg’ a considerable betting favorite over Coenen.  The bout is a rematch, and Coenen extended Cristiane into the 3rd round before getting caught with punches that ended the fight.  Coenen is a veteran with a lot of experience, and she will be dangerous in the fight if ‘Cyborg’ is not her usual dominant self.

In the 135 lb Bantamweight class, Sarah D’Alelio faces unbeaten (6-0) Lauren Taylor, who is coming off a win in her Invicta debut against veteran Kaitlin Young.  Taylor went the distance in getting the win, and is likely facing a long hard fight with D’Alelio as well.  D’Alelio represents Taylor’s toughest test to date.

The entire card is sure to be a crowd pleaser, as Invicta has a solid record of delivering strong fights.  Take a look for them at invictafc.com for the live stream, and look for lines the week of the fight.
