MLB Betting Predictions: Chicago Cubs vs San Francisco Giants
Monday Aug 29th at 10:15 pm we get to watch the Chicago Cubs (57-77, playing away 25-40) take to the road to play the San Francisco Giants (71-63 and 38-28 at home). BetDSI.eu currently has the Giants as a -245 favorite to win giving up a -1 1/2 run to the Cubs via the spread.
Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum (12-10, 2.46 era) who has been dominant lately, and will be pitching against the less then spectacular Cubs pitcher Randy Wells (5-4, 5.53 ERA). Lincecum allowed only a run on four hits in eight innings on wednesday’s 2 – 1 victory over the Padres, climbing to 6-3 with an amazing 1.17 ERA over his last nine starts.
Things have not been good for the cubs as they lost Sunday their fifth consecutive game on the road ( getting swept by the Brewers) putting them on a 1-7 stumble. They have batted in that time .218 while only hitting .143 with runners in scoring positions and only averaging 2.5 runs.
About the only thing good you can mention for the cubs is that starting pitcher Randy Wells has been throwing the ball better after missing almost all of April and May with a forearm strain. In his last outing he yielded only one run and a season low two hits over 6 and 2-3rd innings in Wednesdays 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Afterwards Wells stated: “I’m starting to feel a lot better, I’m starting to command the fastball a lot better. Tonight, I (also) had a pretty good changeup.”
Aramis Ramirez who has been the cubs offensive spark plug of late had gone 32 for 63 (.508) with four home runs during a 16 game hitting streak, he had seen it end Sunday going 0-4. Ramirez is hitting only 3 for 15 (.200) lifetime against San Francisco star pitcher Tim Lincecum
The Giants offense has not been any better, as they left nine yes you read that correctly nine runners on base during an 11 inning, 4-3 heart breaking loss to the weak Houston Astros. Since August the Giants have only been able to muster 2.6 runs a game and have dropped four games behind Arizona who is leading the division.
My Prediction: Go ahead and get your money on the Giants and Tim Lincecum at -245 , you may want to avoid the spread however as the Giants offense has not been lighting up any scoreboards as of late. If both pitchers are on both these teams may have trouble getting past the over/under of 6 1/2.
