MLB Friday Pick – Oakland Athletics at Tampa Bay Rays

We finally stuffed one unit into the piggybank as the Dodgers-Padres easily played Under 6 -105 on Tuesday in a 1-0 ‘underfest’. That bumps our season-long, running record and bankroll to 3-2, +500 in the bank (for the sake of money management and measures we will assume a $500 unit bet). Friday I am going to lay some chalk on a favorite, more than I usually feel comfortable with, but a great spot nonetheless. Take the rubber band off the bankroll and lay it as the Oakland Athletics stumble toTampa Bayto take on the Rays in a 4:10 Pacific start time at Tropicana Field. BetDSI Sportsbook has opened the overnight line Tampa Bay -168, remember this is the overnight price as BetDSI has a graduated dime line that kicks in a 7:30 Pacific.

Despite the serious chalk I am going to lay it here with the Rays at home.

Oakland hasn’t been playing well of late and will enter this one on a 3 game slide. They have been atrocious as visitors with an 18-38 mark so far this season in addition to a 9-15 record when facing AL East teams. Guillermo Moscoso will throw for the A’s tonight and based on recent form we expect Tampa Bay to beat him around a little. He has surrendered 13 Earned Runs in his past 16 innings pitched and on July 25th these same Rays smacked him around for 5 earned runs in 5 innings work. Moscoso brings at 4-5 record on the season but is merely 1-4 away from Oakland, expect more of the same today.

Jeff Niemann leads Tampa Bay into today’s game having put together 5 stellar starts. The big 6’ 9” righty has won 4 straight decisions and has allowed 0, 2, 0, 1 and 1 Earned Runs in his past 5 outings, simply superb stuff. In two of those starts he stuck out 11 and 10 batters, respectively. The Rays starter has made two career starts against Oakland, winning both with a shiny 1.59 ERA.

One more thing, the Oakland Athletics are second to last in Runs Scored in the American League, only thanks to the Seattle Mariners for pulling up the rear.

Normally I do not like to lay the big price but the situation here calls for it based on the current poor form of the As, their terrible mark on the road, and starter Moscoso doesn’t instill any fear. The Rays are a good team and Niemann is undervalued in this spot. Tampa Bay -168 is my bet here at BetDSI Sportsbook. Hold your breath and lay the juice.
