The upstart World Series of Fighting organization announced plans to hold their 3rd event on June 14th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in La Vegas. A full card is not out yet, however the event is head lined by the Josh Burkmann versus Jon Fitch for the vacant welterweight title. The lineup has some talent, as Tyrone Spong is an athlete to keep an eye on and other WSOF fighters such as Andrei Arlovski and Anthony Johnson could still appear on the card.

The match between Fitch and Burkmann is a rematch, as the two men met back in 2006. Back then, Fitch came out on top with a rear naked choke as round 2 ended. Both men have continued to refine and hone their games since then and are much better fighters. Burkmann has gone 7-1 since being dropped by the UFC. Fitch will be favored in the fight by the sportsbooks however, as he is still a top welterweight and has the motivation to perform that comes with being dropped by the UFC.
The real interesting name on the card is Tyrone Spong, who will be in just his 2nd MMA match. Spong won his debut by KO in Round 1 at WSOF 1 back in November, but he has a mile long resume in kickboxing that totals over 100 wins.
No disrespect to his opponent, Angel DeAnda, but it is probably a case of Spong being groomed in MMA, as their is a skill difference between the two fighters that is a mile long. DeAnda has a solid MMA record and he is a slugger who relies on his hands. DeAnda hasn’t shown much of a ground game, but he is going to need to develop one, because he does not want to stand with Spong. Below are supporting videos….
