The controversial Rousimar Palhares has signed on with the World Series of Fighting.

The World Series of Fighting announced the signing of former UFC fighter Rousimar Palhares.  Palhares was recently released by the UFC for holding a leglock submission over Mike Pierce beyond what sportsmanship and decency allow for.  This apparently has no real meaning to the WSOF, who will be adding Palhares to their burgeoning welterweight or middleweight division.  So what awaits Palhares on the World Series of Fighting roster?

Despite having fought in the UFC several times, a suspension anda couple of losses have kept him on the extreme low end of the payscale (he made $7000 to fight Hector Lombard), so Palhares needs the money.  With few job offers out there, the WSOF added a talented albeit it troubled fighter for very little money.  They accept the risk that he may pull another bonehead move.

A great deal will depend on whether Palhares fights as a Middleweight or welterweight division, and there is some talent in those divisions to match Palhares up against.

At Middleweight, the WSOF recently signed another UFC castoff in Yushin Okami, and Okami versus Palhares is a notewrthy, UFC level fight.  The organization is also in the midst of a Middleweight tournament, and Palhares could step in and be a factor.  If the company were to do a Palhares-Okami match and rush it by making it for he title, it would pit the two top guys in their weight class.  Okami is a tall order for Palhares, ho would not be favored in the fight.

At welterweight, things are different.  Josh Burkman has settled in as the titleholder at 170 lbs, and yet another UFC alum in Jon Fitch is looking to still make noise and stil lhas name recognition.  If Palhares comes in as a welterweight, look for him to get a match with Fitch that would qualify the winner for a potential title shot at Burkman.

It might be interesting if a sport book took odds on a match ending with another of ‘Toquinho
