Now that the 2018 NBA Finals are in the books, with the Golden State Warriors winning their third title in four years, the free agency extravaganza can begin. Speculation about where LeBron James will sign is already all over the internet. On Sunday, Dwyane Wade offered an interesting perspective.

Wade, who is close friends with LeBron and played alongside him in Miami and Cleveland, doesn’t expect the talent on a team’s roster to heavily impact LeBron’s decision. So, what will impact it? Lifestyle and family comfort, Wade said during an interview on Fox Sports Radio with Chris Mannix and Caron Butler.

“To me, I don’t think it’s a basketball thing,” Wade shared. “Obviously, you saw this year he can get to the Finals no matter what the circumstances are. I don’t really think the basketball decision of saying, ‘Oh, let me go team up with three All-Stars.’ I think at this point in his life, it’s more so of a lifestyle thing of where my family is going to be the most comfortable and where I’m going to be the most happiest at. Because basketball wise, he’s so great that he can bring along and take along whoever.”

LeBron’s future is uncertain. A few teams, however, have emerged as favorites. Fans and analysts consider Wade’s current squad, the Heat, a fringe contender. The other primary options, according to popular theory: staying in Cleveland or heading to Houston, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles. Boston and San Antonio are also in the mix.

Free Agency Details

We likely will not find out LeBron’s plans for another month. NBA free agency does not officially get underway until July 1, and LeBron probably won’t rush his decision.

Last time he changed teams, he announced his decision with a first-person essay with Sports Illustrated‘s Lee Jenkins. This time around, expect him to make the announcement via his media platform, Uninterrupted.
