NBA Playoffs Betting Prediction: Boston Celtics Vs New York Knicks Game One

The NBA Playoffs are here and a great series starts it off with Atlantic rivals the Boston Celtics vs the New York Knicks. Coming in at the second seed, and finishing first in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks are large favorites home favorites in the opening game over the 7th seed Boston Celtics who finished third in the division.

The New York Knicks had a great season going 54-28 finishing first in the Atlantic Division and second in the Eastern Conference. Led by NBA scoring champion Carmelo Anthony the Knicks were near unstoppable coming down the playoff stretch. They went on a 13 game winning streak before splitting the last four games

New York finished off the season18th in the league in scoring, 29th in rebounds per game, 12th in assists per game, and 12th in points allowed. The leading scorers for the Knicks were Anthony with his lead leading 28 ppg, J.R. Smith with 18.1, Amare Stoudemire (14.2), B.J. Felton (13.9), and Earl Barron with 11 pgg.

The Knicks love to shoot three’s they have shot almost a thousand more attempts from behind the arc in the regular season than the Celtics so how Boston matches up against the three ball will be vital for them. Also come clutch time New York has two clutch shooters with of course Anthony and the second being J.R. Smith who has taken almost as many game decision shots as Melo throughout the season.

The Boston Celtics will have to prove that the regular season record does not matter so long as you make it to the playoffs. Going just one game above .500 in the regular season at 41-40 the Celtics finished 7th in the Eastern Conference and third in the Atlantic Division. Boston finished the season ranked 18th in the league in scoring, 29th in rpg, 12th in apg, and 12th in defense.

They suffered a major blow not long ago when when rising star PG Rajon Rondo went down for the remainder of the season, but they did find something in Forward Jeff Green who is averaging 12 points a game and shooting a high .484 percent from the floor. Paul Pierce leads Boston scorers with 18.6 per game and Kevin Garnett is not far behind with 14.8 per game.

The Celtics are happy to have Garnett back for the playoffs as he is their defensive leader, however it may not be enough against a Knicks team playing so strong. I like the price on the Celtics in this first game as its over a 7 point spread at this point, but I believe the Knicks win this one and the series in 5 or 6 games.
