NCAA Basketball Betting Predictions: UNLV Rebels vs San Diego State Aztecs

Big MWC conference match tonight when UNLV (14-3, 1-1 MWC) travels to take on 15th ranked San Diego State (14-2, 2-0 MWC). Oddly despite the better team statistics of UNLV they are unranked while San Diego trailing them in every major category is ranked 15th. BetDSI Sportsbook will have UNLV as small favorite in this game.

UNLV had a nine game winning streak this season stretching from end of November till the end of December. It was broken with their second loss of the season at the hands of UNC. Their last game was a victory over Air Force right after their own loss to New Mexico. UNLV ranks 28th nationally in scoring with 77.5 ppg, 8th in rebounds per game with 42.5, 3rd in assists with 18.4 per, and 106th in field goal percentage with .450 per match.

The UNLV Rebels are led by their leading scorer Freshman Forward Anthony Bennett who puts up a bulk of their points with 19.6 per game and snatches 9.3 rpg. The drop off from the Rebels first scorer and second scorer is rather large as Freshman Guard Katin Reinhardt puts up 9.9 per game with 3 assists. They struck gold in their recruiting as their two leading scorers are freshmen, another one that looks to have a bright future is Forward Savon Goodman who is averaging just 4.7 ppg and 3 rpg but doing so on just an average of 11 minutes play per match.

San Diego State is on a three game winning streak since their 11 game streak was broken by 3rd ranked Arizona while at home. Their last victory a 79-72 overtime win over CSU but UNLV will be a different monster and their toughest test since losing to Arizona. San Diego state ranks 83rd in scoring with 72.1 points per game, 95th in rebounding with 37.4, 148th with 13.4 assists, and 107th in shooting going .450 percent from the field.

The Aztecs leading scorers are Junior Jamaal Franklin 17.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 3.5 assists per game, and Senior Guard Chase Tapley who is putting up 15.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, and 2.5 apg. They picked up some high grade recruits in the off-season but they have not contributed a whole lot as of yet. Forward Winston Shepard is putting in close to 20 minutes a game with only 4.2 points per and 3 boards, while Forward Skylar Spencer is putting in close to 15 minutes with only 3.2 ppg and 3.3 rebounds per to show for it.

UNLV Rebels vs San Diego State Aztecs Betting Prediction:

The UNLV Rebels have a heck of a future with their freshmen leading the team in scoring and dominating while on the court, but with that is lack of experience for this year to take a major step forward against tougher competition. The San Diego State Aztecs are a more experienced team having a Junior and Senior leading in scoring and I think that will play a big factor in this match-up. Take San Diego at home with the points.
