NFL Betting: Jets Under Heavy Pressure, Scrutiny On MNF

There isn’t a bigger media circus in the NFL right now than the New York Jets. After a disheartening 34-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week, their team that has been panned by almost every possible media circuit.

They won’t get any sympathy – or break in the schedule – when the Houston Texans visit for  Monday Night Football. The once-confident Jets and their bold head coach Rex Ryan have fallen off the pedestal and are now find themselves as a massive nine-point home underdog.

Can they pick up the pieces? If not, it might be Tebow Time very soon in New York.

How The Texans Can Win

Houston is one of three undefeated teams in the league, along with Atlanta and Arizona, and they’ve arguably been the most impressive of all three. Matt Schaub runs the offense to near-perfection, and the Texans can hurt you either way, through the air or on the ground.

But the Texans really didn’t take the next step until Wade Phillips came to town to take care of the defense and now Houston is a force to be reckoned with. You could say that they’re the favorites in the AFC, although it is still too early to hand them the crown yet. They’re balanced on both sides of the ball, and all they have to do on Monday night is to continue what they’ve been doing.

How The Jets Can Win

The Jets are somehow 2-2 despite not being able to run or throw the ball, and even though they are 4th in the NFL against the pass, that ranking is misleading because the Jets are 31st against the run, so teams don’t have to throw against them. New York lost cornerback Darrelle Revis for the season with a torn ACL, and he would be the one playing opposite Houston’s Andre Johnson. Houston’s aerial attack could have a breakout game on Monday night.

What do the Jets have to do to win this game? They may have to hold the Texans under 10 points because their offense is a mess. The calls to start Tim Tebow at quarterback are getting louder and it has to be tough on Mark Sanchez, who also lost receiver Santonio Holmes for the year with a foot problem that kept Schaub last season. Can the Jets score enough points to get past the Texans?

Outlook And Pick

Houston has been given a major edge on the road as they’re favored by nine points, which is a slap in the face of the Jets, but when you consider the way that the Texans have been playing as opposed to how New York has been playing, it’s a fair line to make. The Jets haven’t even looked great in their wins, even the 48-28 beating of Cincinnati in Week 1 when teams were still shaking the rust off.

This game could make or break the Jets’ season as they were shut out in San Francisco and they can’t afford to have another game like that, especially at home. But Houston is playing like a Super Bowl contender and they’ll handle the Jets easily en route to a win on Monday Night Football.
