NFL Betting Picks: New York Giants vs New England Patriots

NFL Betting Picks: New York Giants at New England Patriots

Thursday Sept. 1st the New England Patriots (2-1) host the New York Giants (1-2) at Foxboro’s Gillette Stadium. The sportsbook currently have the Patriots as a large +8 favorites to the Giants.

The New England Patriots have been solid on offense with exception to last weeks beating by the Detroit Lions. The Patriots offense has been really good in the preseason thus far with per game averages of: 29 points per game, 404 total yards, 270 passing yards, and 134 rushing yards. Last week against the Lions, Patriots star QB Tom Brady completed 12 passes out of 22 attempts for 145 yards a TD and an INT. Rookie QB Ryan Mallett is definitly making his case this preseason for being the #2 QB behind Brady, playing excellent this preseason. Last week Mallet threw for 9 completions on 14 attempts for 65 yards and no INT’s. The Pats running game which played excellent in previous preseason games did not show up last week to play against the Lions.

The Patriots defense also did not show up to play last week getting ramped on by the Lions for 34 points, and making Lions QB Matthew Stafford look like Joe Montana. Last week the Pats defense allowed Stafford to put up 12 completions on 14 attempts for 200 yards 2TD’s and no interceptions in just a half of football. The Patriots did stop the run last week against Detroit although its really of little meaning as the Lions running game has been really bad this preseason with their offense being carried by their passing attack.

The New York Giants offense has been very inconsistent averaging per a game 18 points, 335 total yards, 200 passing yards, and 134 yards rushing. Giants QB “The Other” Manning might as well stayed in the locker room for their last week game against the Jets, as in a half of football he threw 15 completions on 30 attempts for 200 yards not a single TD and 2 INT’s. Backup QB David Carr did little better against the Jets 2nd team defense throwing 5 completions on 12 attempts for a measly 36 yards 0 TD and 0 INT. New York’s running game didn’t do much last week either with Brandon Jacobs leading the pack 10 carry’s for 51 yards with one carry equaling half his total rushing yards on the day.

The Giants defense did come to play last week giving up only 17 points and allowing only 233 total yards to the Jets. The secondary played well only allowing 121 total passing yards, this secondary has played good all preseason.

My Prediction: With the spread being so high at +8 for the New York Giants it is hard to bet against that, however the way the Patriots got beaten last week. I just don’t see how Bill Belilchik and co doesn’t come out swinging for the fences in this one, and try to put a bad beating on the Giants. I expect the Patriots to win, if the money line is favorable when the BetDSI posts it I would get my money on the Pats there, if the money line is not favorable then I still believe the Patriots have a great chance of covering this spread at home where this game could get ugly fast for the Giants.
