NFL Betting Predictions: Detroit Lions vs Green Bay Packers
Sunday January 1st ( Happy New Years ) the Detroit Lions travel to Lambeau Field where they have lost 20 in a row to take on the Green Bay Packers. BetDSI Sportsbook current Live Lines has the Detroit Lions as a -4 point favorite for the fact that the Green Bay Packers are expected to rest their starters for all if not most of the game.
Congratulations to Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz and the whole Lions organization for their first playoff birth since 1999. Where they have made one of the greatest turnarounds in NFL history going from winless just a few years ago to now being a very tough team with a chance of making it to the superbowl. Last week they clinched their playoff spot with a absolute beat down 38-10 victory over the once surging San Diego Chargers. QB Matthew Stafford played phenomenal going 29/36 for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kevin Smith had 15 carries for 49 yards a TD, and also had 2 catches 12 yards and another score. Calvin Johnson led the team in receiving with 4 receptions for 102 yards and a TD.
The Lions defense was dominant last week giving up only 10 points on 367 total yards, 299 passing , and 68 passing. Linebacker Justin Duran led Detroits defense with 11 tackles. Cornerback Chris Houston made an interception, while DE Cliff Avril grabbed an interception on the line and ran it in for six points. The Lions kept the Chargers to only one score in three red goal posessions while going 4/4 in the red zone themselves.
The Green Bay Packers shelled the Bears 35-21 last week in the first game Chicago has had a little offense in the past few games. QB Aaron Rodgers a potential MVP candidate this year had a field day throwing 21 completions on 29 attempts for 283 yards and 5 touchdowns. Showing a little run in their attack RB Ryan Grant ran 8 times for 44 yards. Jordy Nelson had a great day leading the team with 6 receptions for 115 yards and two scores.
The Packers defense gave up a plethora of yards against a weak Chicago offense , however came up with big plays when they mattered most. Linebackers Desmond Bishop and AJ Hawk both led the team with tackles 12, while Strong Safety Charlie Peprah was right behind them with 11 total tackles also grabbing and interception and creating a fumble. Clay Matthews always with the knack of making a big play had 6 tackles, forced fumble, and an snagged an intereption.
My Prediction: With the possiblity that most of the Green Bay Packers stars will be sitting this one out against the Detroit Lions you would have to imagine the Lions will light up this already sketchy Green Bay defense. I take Detriot over the Packers by – 4 all day, as the Lions will be playing their starters and playing them hard because if they win they may enter the playoffs as the fifth seed instead of the sixth and having to play either the Saints or the 49ers.
