NFL Betting Predictions: San Francisco 49ers at Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles offense has been sharp at times and disarray at others with QB Michael Vick getting hit what seems like every snap, and injured what seems like every game. Last week against the New York Giants Vick was not playing all that well before he was injured, completing 16 passes on 23 attempts for 176 yards an INT and 3 Fumbles. He has been getting smashed after throws, and genuinely running for his life each game. RB LeSean McCoy is still tearing it up getting 24 attempts for 128 yards and a TD last week while also grabbing 3 receptions for 13 yards.
The Eagles with all their pass rush could not stop Giants QB Eli Manning last week as he threw for 254 yards 4 TD’s 0 INT’s. It is safe to say this ” elite ” secondary the Eagles put together in the off-season is not working as planned. The Eagles picked up 3 sacks but apart from that they were chewed up for 102 rushing yards, and allowed the Giants to convert 5 out of 12, 3rd down conversions.
The San Francisco are in a surprise first place in the NFC West after a very unimpressive win last week over the Cincinnati Bengals. The 49er offense did not even cross the 50 yard line untill midway through the 3rd quarter (it was ugly). QB Alex Smith however did play mistake free football throwing 20 completions on 30 attempts for 201 yards 0 TD 0 INT. The running game did not help them much at all with RB Frank Gore carrying the ball 17 times for 42 yards a terrible 2.5 yards per carry. RB Kenny Hunter was the person who sealed the game for them with a late TD run but only getting 26 yards on the day on 9 carries.
The 49er defense did step up last week but against the Bengals this is not saying much. The D only allowed 228 total yards, 79 rushing, and 149 passing. They stuffed the Bengals all day long on 3rd down, allowing their opponents only 1 first down on 10, 3rd down conversion attempts. Together they only got 1 sack but got some pressure and made 2 interceptions on the day against Bengals rookie QB Andy Dalton.
My Prediction: The Eagles should get back in the win column on this one, however maybe not by the full 8 1/2 point margin. Who knows if Vick will complete this game, and after 2 weeks in a row where he has left the game early and failed me, I am going to take a long shot and say the Eagles do not cover the spread.
