NFL Betting Predictions: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Redskins
Thursday Sept. 1st at 7:30 Eastern, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1) travel to Fed Ex Field to take on the Washington Redskins (2-1). BetDSI.eu sportsbook currently have the Redskins as a large -7 point favorite against the Buccaneers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have not lit it up on offense but have been efficient gaining (per game averages) 18 points (17th) 321 total yards (15th), 220 passing yards (13th), and a 100 yards rushing on the ground (23rd). Last week against the Miami Dolphins the Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman was not great but avoided making any mistakes completing 12 passes out of 23 for 149 yards ( mostly after the catch ) 0 TD’s and 0 INT. QB Rudy Carpenter played well against the opposing back up defense completing 5 passes on 8 attempts for 59 yards and 1 TD 0 INT. The running game for the Bucs has been down right awful last week with QB Freeman leading in yards at 17 on 1 carry. The backfield was good however at catching the ball and taking it upfield for nice gains.
The Buccaneers defense has been solid apart from the second preseason game against high octane offense of the New England Patriots. Clearly by the score of the Bucs last weeks win against the Dolphins 17 – 13 was from great defense, especially in the red zone holding the Fins to a field goal on a very important early drive. They held the dolphins to only 247 total yards and an insanely low 22 yards on the ground in 17 rushing plays.
The Washington Redskins offense is appearing to buy into coach Mike Shanahan’s system more this year as the (per game averages) are ranked really good 21 points, 401 total yards, 250 passing yards, and 152 yards rushing (1st in NFL). Mike Shanahan has always been known to turn no name backs and cast offs into stars running amuck on opposing defenses, it appears this maybe the case this year with Roy Helu 35 attempts for 175 yards 4.9 average per carry, and Tim Hightower 25 attempts 170 yards a staggering 6.8 yards per attempt and 2 TD’s this preseason. Both running backs have taken one for 50+ yards a pretty rare feat in just 3 games. Rex Grossman and John Beck ( who was sent away by Redskins security when trying to enter the team facility for not recognizing him the day the lockout ended ) have had a new level of swagger instilled into them by their head coach Shanahan in the offseason stating he beleives in both QB’s and has a high level of confidence in them, as both have over a 90.0 QB rating so far this preseason. It is notable however that this team has been failing on 3rd downs at an alarming rate only converting on 3rd 29.3% of the time.
The Redskins defense were enjoying the same swagger untill meeting the Baltimore Ravens last week as they have allowed (per game average) 23 points, 389 total yards, 261 passing yards , and 127 rushing yards. Last week the Redskins were shredded for 452 total yards, 314 passing, and 138 rushing, and 4 total touchdowns increasing the defenses allowed averages greatly. Look for this all to change against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who’s offense has been rugged playing tough till the very end of the game but less than explosive.
My Prediction: While I think the Redskins will win this one, I don’t know if they will win this convincingly with the spread set at -7 you may want to link up with the Bucs and the points. That being said the Buccaneers have been playing very tough football and can definitly win this one. If Tampa Bay has a high + on the money line after BetDSI sets them later today you may want to get your money on that crafty bet.
I hope John Beck wins the Redskins starting job and lights up the scoreboard every game he plays in. There would be fewer stories this year better than a QB that looks like Joe Dirt being denied access to his own team facilities to end up becoming a star QB.
