As the NFL enters Week 16, there’s a highly-contested game of musical chairs ongoing. The NFC East and West are in focus in particular in our weekly picks. Here’s our Week 16 NFL betting picks and analysis.
New Orleans Saints @ Dallas Cowboys
Odds: Cowboys -1
The Saints are the underdogs here but they’ve won four of their last five against the Cowboys, who absolutely need a win to stay in the hunt for the postseason. New Orleans destroyed Tampa Bay 41-0 and he can do the same to the Dallas secondary but the Saints’ defense played out of this world on Sunday. It’s tough to say whether they can play like that again.
Everything in this game is pointing to a high-scoring affair, but how much do you trust the Cowboys to come out on top when the chips are down? They have been on-point in recent weeks but that was when the pressure was off. Can you really trust them to step up when the pressure is on?
Pick: Saints +1
New York Giants @ Baltimore Ravens
Odds: Giants -2.5
Both teams are above .500 and there are a lot of teams that would trade places with them but the Giants and Ravens are two veteran teams that have a lot of questions. The Giants can go from looking like they can retain their Super Bowl title and then look like a two-win team the next week. The Ravens are locked into the playoffs but no one feels confident that they can go very far (although the Giants’ past two Super Bowl wins are a testament to the saying, “all you need to do is get to the playoffs”).
Both defenses have been suspect at times, so this could be a high-scoring game as well. When it comes to pressure situations, the Giants’ pedigree gives them a slight edge in Baltimore.
Pick: Giants -2.5
San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks
Odds: 49ers -1
Sunday night’s contest pits the cream of the NFC West as the 49ers can wrap up the division title with a victory but the Seahawks can extend the race to the final week of the regular season and they’re one of two teams in the NFL (along with Atlanta) to be undefeated at home so far in 2012.
The 49ers have won the last four meetings with the Seahawks but the ‘Hawks have won three of the last five meetings in Seattle and their two losses to San Francisco came by a combined five points. San Francisco is a scarier team with Colin Kaepernick at the helm as he makes them more explosive, but Seattle’s Russell Wilson has been brilliant this season and is be a contender for Rookie of the Year despite having to go up against Indianapolis’ Andrew Luck and Washington’s Robert Griffin III. This is going to be a barnburner that could either be a shootout or a low-scoring football betting contest, but stick with the home team.
Pick: Seahawks +1
