NFL Football Betting Review: Oakland Raiders vs San Diego Chargers

Thursday at 5:20 pm Eastern, the Oakland Raiders (4-4) will be traveling to Qualcomm Stadium to take on the San Diego Chargers (4-4). BetDSI Sportsbook current Live Lines display the chargers a favorite by -7 points against the Raiders.

The San Diego Chargers are coming off a devastating loss to the Green Bay Packers 45-38, where they could have won it had QB Phillip Rivers not turned the ball over on three interceptions, two of which went for touchdowns. Take away those mistakes and Rivers has a hell of a day throwing 26/46 for 385 yards and 4 TD’s. Runningback Mike Tolbert had 19 rushes for 83 yards and a touchdown. WR Vincent Jackson shredded the Packers defense for 7 receptions 141 yards and 3 TD’s.

The Chargers defense was no match for the Green Bay Packers and their QB Aaron Rodgers. They gave up 45 points where Rodgers threw for 247 yards and 4 TD’s, also giving up 136 rushing yards in a pitiful performance by the San Diego defense. Chargers outside linbacker Antwan Barnes was about the only bright spot for their defense as he had 7 tackles and 2 sacks.

The Oakland Raiders offense did look better last week in their 38 – 24 loss against the Denver Broncos. Raiders QB Carson Palmer played much better making some beautiful passes, throwing 332 yards and 3 TD’s to go with his 3 int’s this week (threw 3 interceptions last week). While Palmer is still getting back into the groove, he is showing signs of getting back into playing shape (physically and mentally). RB Michael Bush had 19 carries for 96 yards, with a long one of 16 yds. The offense failed to score any points in the 4th quarter against the Bronco’s and will need to play all 60 minutes should they want a win against the Chargers.

The Raiders defense were shelled for 38 points last week by the Broncos who have not been ligthing teams up by any means with thier rookie QB Tim Tebow. Against Denver the Raiders gave up 412 total yards , 299 rushing, and 113 passing. The special teams played terrible too as Oakland gave up a TD on a return by WR Eddie Royal.

My Prediction: While the Oakland Raiders are certainly playing better than the previous week where they threw 6 int’s, and QB Carson Palmer is getting better settled. I do not think they will have the firepower to come close to beating the San Diego Chargers who almost gave the Packers their first loss last week.
