NFL Playoff Betting Predictions: New Orleans Saint vs San Francisco 49ers

Second round of the playoffs happening this weekend as the New Orleans Saints travel to take on the San Francisco 49ers. BetDSI Sportsbook current Live Lines show the Saints as -3 (-135) favorites over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Saints have been lighting offenses up all season and it doesnt appear to be coming to a halt in the post season as they lit up the Detroit Lions 45 – 28 in the wild card round of the playoffs last Saturday. Drew Brees had a ridiculously good game throwing 33 completions on 43 attempts for 466 yards and 3 touchdowns. Darren Sproles had 10 rushing attempts for 51 yards and two scores on the ground, he also had 4 catches for 34 yards receiving. Marquez Colston had 7 catches for 120 yards, and Robert Meachem had 4 for 11 yards and a touchdown.

New Orleans did show some vulnerability on defense giving up huge passing gains, they allowed 380 passing yards. Cornerback Jabari Greer came through big time wtih two interceptions, he also had 7 tackles on the day. Tracey Porter led the defense with 7 tackles, not one New Orleans defender managed a sack against the Lions.

The San Francisco 49ers have had a turn around of the ages this year under new coach Jim Harbaugh. They went 13-3 with a QB Alex Smith who has not played great in the past, but really shined this year under the new system. Alex Smith threw 273 completions for 3144 yards with 17 touchdowns to 5 interceptions, in what has easily been his best year in the NFL. Runningback Frank Gore added an impressive year to his resume running 282 times for 1211 yards and 8 touchdowns. Michael Crabtree has led San Francisco in receiving with 72 catches for 874 yards and 4 touchdowns. Vernon Davis has led the 49ers in receiving touchdowns with 6 total on the year.

The 49ers have fielded a really good defense all year long, giving up a second best league low 14 points per a game. The defense behind rookie DE Aldon Smith’s 14 sacks have generated 42 sacks on the season. The defense also had a absolutely ridiculous 23 interception total, with Carlos Rogers and Dashon Goldson both leading the way with six a piece, Rogers returned one for a touchdown. Linebacker NaVorro Bowman was around the ball alot with a team leading 143 tackles, Patrick Willis was second with 97.

My Prediction: I do not know if the San Francisco 49ers can beat the New Orleans Saints, however they are at home, and I want this Cinderella story to continue so I am backing the 49ers in this one. I look at it as the 49ers can win but they will have do do what a lesser skilled boxer does when he knows he is outclassed in match and make it an ugly fight.
