NFL Preseason Betting: Indianapolis Colts vs New York Giants
Fun match-up tonight as we will get to see more of Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck and New York Giants QB Eli Manning when they face off tonight. With the Indianapolis Colts taking to the road the New York Giants are favored less than a field goal.
What a season the Indianapolis Colts had last year. They got their QB of the future in the draft in Andrew Luck and then he went on to have a stellar rookie year. Luck took his team to a wild card spot in the playoffs turning his team around with a Pro Bowl alternate worthy campaign which saw him in close running for rookie of the year. In 2012 Luck threw for 4,374 yards, 23 touchdowns, to 18 interceptions.
Last week the Colts lost 44-20 to the Buffalo Bills in their first week of preseason football. Starters only took a couple of drives so it came to the back-ups where Indianapolis third string QB Chandler Harnish was given a bunch of reps. With the lengthy playing time Harnish did not look good completed 14 passes on 33 attempts for 109 yards and an interception. Second string QB Matt Hasselbeck shown he can still get the ball in the end zone when called upon going 4 for 8 for 75 yards with an interception and a score.
The New York Giants had a disappointing season last year for a team expecting to continually be in the playoffs and title contention. With that said the Giants look to come out sharp early season and get some good playing time in this game.
QB Eli Manning had a good season last year coming just short of 4,000 yards with 26 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Last week in preseason action against the Pittsburgh Steelers Eli Manning only threw 5 passes but that is all he needed for 73 yards and a touchdown as one of his two completions was to Victor Cruz for 57 yards.
In preseason action I like to get on a team that is deeper in the QB position, however neither of these teams are terrible deep there. Indianapolis Colts back-up QB Hasslebeck is a little better second string option than New York Giants David Carr, but the Giants are definitely a more polished team all around. I look for the deeper Giants team to win this game at home and cover the spread.
