A nice 4-1-1 NFL betting run the past couple of weeks and we also have hit the past two Saturday College Football winners for a 6-1-1 streak. Back to the pros we go Sunday as I have three more plays that I’ll be investing in this weekend in the NFL.
It looks like a real mess in Pittsburgh this season with QB Ben Roethlisberger getting beat up and dinged on a routine basis. The Steelers offensive line is a mess and isn’t getting run its blocking schemes nor pass protection right. Pittsburgh gets a stout Tennessee Titans defense on Sunday in what may be another long outing for the Steelers. As I touched on in my weekly recap, it is interesting to see two 0-4 teams as favorites at home this week (Indianapolis and Minnesota).
1:15 Pacific: New York Jets (48.5) at New England Patriots (-7.5) – Gillette Stadium
Much has been made as to how great the New England Patriots offense is, and how poorly their defense has performed this season. While I appreciate the fact that the Patriots offense is among the league’s elite, I think the motivation factor for the New York Jets may be a contributor today. At 2-2 the Jets have lost their past two and certainly have their backs against the wall. People are attacking them in the media, things aren’t going right – and this is the kind of situation that a team like theirs should respond to in a positive way. I look for New York to fight tooth and nail with New England and the Jets superior defense to play a huge role. New York will need the offense to mix the pass and run effectively, get some big plays from their defense, stay close enough to win this game, and certainly cover.
I am betting New York Jets +7.5
5:35 Pacific: Chicago Bears (47.5) at Detroit Lions (-5) – Ford Field
The Chicago Bears defense surrendered a ton of yards to Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers last week but I merely see that as a wake-up call for them as the head to Detroit on Monday Night. The Bears have been known for their stellar defense since the beginning of time and this game should resemble a more “typical” Chicago game. RB Matt Forte has played very well this season and is effective both rushing and catching the ball out of the backfield. I look for a controlled attack from the Bears offense which eats a lot of the clock, while their defense keys on the Lions aerial attack as their defensive front can handle the Detroit running backs effectively. On the other side the Detroit defense has played well, allowing an average of 19 points per game, and have a solid defensive line. Simply put I do not see either side moving the ball easily, the intensity of this game will be high with a playoff ‘feel’ to it.
My bet is on the Under 47.5
Teaser Time: San Francisco +4 with Green Bay-Atlanta Under 60
The San Francisco 49ers could very well be 4-0 at this point in the season, of course they aren’t, but only an overtime loss to Dallas in which the Niners held a 24-14 fourth quarter lead kept them from being undefeated so far. Tampa Bay put Indianapolis away late on Monday night, and get the short week to head west and play San Francisco. The Niners are a well-rounded team that is executing well and should shut down Bucs RB LeGarrette Blount. If Blount gets to run over people he is fine, otherwise there isn’t much to his game. Green Bay and Atlanta is simply too high of a total, the Falcons aren’t an air-it-out and go-for-broke team that they looked like against the Eagles and sat back on a big lead at Seattle last week. The Packers, with all their talent at QB and WR are still a decent rushing team when called upon. I think this one won’t get out of hand at any point and stay well Under the extra cushion our teaser provides.
