We’re finally here at the Stanley Cup finals as Chicago and Boston face off in Game 1 on Wednesday night in the Windy City. There should be no question whether these two deserve to be here as the Blackhawks won the Cup in 2010 and rolled through the regular season with the highest amount of points while the Bruins won the Cup in 2011 and even though they were the fourth seed in the East, they were just one point out of second in the conference. Here’s a look at their Game 1 matchup:
Game 1 Preview: Boston Bruins @ Chicago Blackhawks
Odds: Blackhawks -150
The Bruins are coming off a four-game sweep of the Stanley Cup favorites from Pittsburgh and there is a worry that they peaked during that series, considering how well they played. They held a team led by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin to two goals in four games and won the first two games in Pittsburgh by a score of 10-1. Goaltender Tuukka Rask played some fantastic hockey between the pipes, but the defense marshaled by Zdeno Chara played well in front of him. Also, Boston is getting scoring from multiple lines.
The same formula is working in Chicago, who beat the defending Cup champs from Los Angeles in five games as the Blackhawks are getting scoring from everywhere, while maintaining their strength at the back. Corey Crawford has gotten a lot of help from the defense led by Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook, but goals can come from anywhere in Chicago and that gives the defense a lot of confidence.
Chicago is favored at -150 on the hockey betting lines in their first meeting with the Bruins since 2011, but the Bruins are 3-1-1 in their last five trips to the Windy City. This is going to be a tight series until the end, but the edge goes to the ‘Hawks in a close game.
