Only The Players And Coaches Have Something To Gain In Jets vs Bills

Today the New York Jets travel to take on the Buffalo Bills today in what can only be called a meaningless game. However many players on both sides have a lot to prove and play for as they will be either trying to keep their jobs or play to be seen as worthy for a new one. BetDSI Sportsbook has the Bills as slight favorites at home against the Jets today.

Few teams this season have had a more disappointing season than the New York Jets who always believe themselves good enough to compete for a playoff spot. QB Mark Sanchez’s huge decline in production even after a huge contract before the start of the season is a huge reason the Jets are on the outside looking in come playoff time.

No better example of how bad Mark Sanchez season has been than his week 15 game two weeks ago in a 14-10 loss against the Titans. Sanchez was down right awful going 13/28 for just 131 yards a single touchdown and four interceptions. He was benched the following week for third stringer Greg McElroy who was sacked 11 times in a 27-17 loss to the Chargers.

He was stated to be the starter for week 17 with head coach Rex Ryan stating “ I felt the best decision for our team is for Greg McElroy to be our QB right now “. Little did he know taking 11 sacks in the last game would give his new starting QB McElroy a concussion that he hid from the team.

Upon finding out and deactivating McElroy, Rex Ryan made a statement to the press “ You aren’t going to believe this “ looking entirely unamused while explaining the situation and stating that Mark Sanchez is once again the starter in the final game of the season against the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills (5-10) thought they would make a step forward this year. Locking up QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in the offseason to a big contract and picking up DE Mario Williams from free agency and making him the highest paid defensive player in history they had figured they would be in a position to make a run for the playoffs.

What they got was Fitzpatrick making a small improvement with throwing less interceptions but he still has his gunslinger mentality that puts the ball in the wrong teams hands too often. However with Mario Williams playing at the level he is paid at towards the end of the season and running back C.J. Spiller blowing up onto the scene as a huge big play threat, the Bills have a bright future.

The Bills played the Jets very tough in their first game of the season with C.J. Spiller running all over the NY defense for 169 yards including a 59 yard TD. Fitzpatrick also had his bright points throwing 3 touchdowns, take away the 3 interceptions and you could have a totally different outcome. I look for the Bills to win this one, take them on ML or against the spread of -3.

Rex Ryan will probably be back regardless the outcome of this game. The GM of the Bills Buddy Nix and head coach Chan Gailey will make a much better case at finding a job in the future when they get canned the end of this season. If they win big they may even get an opportunity to plead for another year however low the chance of that maybe.

Basically the Bills will be playing and coaching for more than the Jets as even Fitzpatrick in my opinion could possibly get another year starting for Buffalo even if they draft a rookie QB, or play for an opportunity to get picked up elsewhere at season end should he be cut. I don’t think regardless of how well Jets QB Sanchez does that he will get another opportunity to start again anytime soon.
