Panthers Hoping to Finish Season Strong Against Falcons
The Carolina Panthers came out stumbling earlier in the year going 0-2 in their first two games and then 1-3 in their first four but then went on to win eight in a row. Carolina has clinched a playoff spot for the first time in five years with their 17-13 win over New Orleans last week.
The Atlanta Falcons have not had a good season after almost making it to the Super Bowl last year. They are 4-11 and lost their home dominance of the past going just 3-4 this season.
Carolina won a very low scoring game against the Saints last week where their QB Cam Newton played just efficiently enough to get them the victory throwing for 181 yards a touchdown and one interception. WR Dominick Hixon caught the one touchdown pass of the game a fourteen yard catch for a score. Carolina’s running game did enough to help in securing the win with Deangelo Williams rushing 12 times for 67 yards and a touchdown.
The Atlanta Falcons allowed the 49ers to clinch a playoff berth last week after dropping the game 34-24 to San Francisco. If Matt Ryan only could have taken back his two interceptions he would have had a heck of a day completing 37 of 48 passes for 348 yards and two scores. Steven Jackson helped out with 53 yards and a score on 16 carries. Couldn’t asked more of Roddy White who had had a ridiculously good day catching 12 balls for 141 yards and a score.
I have to take the Carolina Panthers to finish strong this season and at less than a touchdown spread against the struggling Atlanta Falcons I’m taking it. The Falcons simply cannot stop the run and keep points off the board so it does not matter how many they can score. Take the Panthers to cover the spread in this match-up, they will likely play their starters with exception to WR Steve Smith who wills it with a rolled ankle.
