Quick Betting Picks for this Weekend’s Strikeforce 36 Heavyweight Tournament

Strikeforce-world-heavyweight-grand-prix-semifinals-pickJosh “The Baby-Faced Assassin” Barnett vs Sergei “The Russian Mercenary” Kharitonov

BetDSI Strikeforce Betting Lines:

It’s hard to bet against Josh Barnett (30-5) when he is on a 7 win streak which includes a recent win over Brett “The Grim” Rogers. He puts his wrestling and BJJ submission skills to good use by maneuvering the fight to the ground where he can control and dominate the fight better.

Sergei Kharitonov (18-4) will be well aware of Barnett’s plan to take him to the floor. The Russians stand up boxing skills is a real threat if he can close in the gap but that puts him in danger of getting taken down.  Kharitonov will be looking to score a KO before Barnet can submit him. This will be an interesting as Barnett has lost only once via KO and Sergei has only tapped out one time.

Strikeforce Betting Pick: I’m going with Barnett, even though Sergei has beaten the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski, Barnett’s wrestling/BJJ combination puts him on a higher ground.

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva vs Daniel “DC” Cormier

BetDSI Strikeforce Betting Lines:

Daniel Cormier has a lot of potential; he made his MMA debut in 2009 and already has an 8-0 record. His NCAA Division I and Olympian wrestling background coupled with training at the American Kickboxing Academy makes him a real contender.  Contender though he may be, he doesn’t have any wins over anyone who is currently ranking in the heavyweight division.

Antonio Silva on the other hand does have a huge win over someone who was a real contender in the division:  Fedor Emelianenko. Silva’s momentum and confidence must oozing out of his pores with that last win over “The Last Emperor.”  Silva will most likely keep the fight standing for a while and then go for takedowns so he can implement either ground and pound or a submission. Silva is a good all around fighter who boasts Black Belts in Judo, BJJ and Karate, wherever the fight goes he should be able to stand his ground.

Strikeforce Betting Pick: I see Silva finishing the fight in round 2. His strong chin will weather the storm and his BJJ skills finish the fight.
