Two top female fighters clash this Saturday at 10pm ET on Showtime in what will most likely be the biggest women’s MMA event of the year. Newly crowned Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion Miesha “Takedown” Tate, who is on a 6 win streak, will be defending her belt against the rookie Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey. Ronda won all three of her amateur MMA fights AND all 4 of her pro MMA fights via armbar in under a minute! If anything, this will be a fight to remember.
There has been a lot of hype surrounding Ronda Rousey from the beginning of her pro career due to her amazing amateur record, trash talk and because she has taken home 6 Olympic medals in Judo. Now the hype train is running full steam as Miesha Tate has been spewing verbal venom at Ronda. Although Ronda has won all 4 fights in under a year, Tate has been very vocal that there are other fighters who more so deserve a shot at the title, such as Sarah Kaufman.
Let’s look at the BetDSI Sportsbook Strikeforce betting odds on this event:
MIESHA TATE +225
RONDA ROUSEY -285
The rookie comes in as the betting favorite while the veteran is the underdog! Although Rousey has finished 100% of her fights in under a minute, the fights have been too short for us to gauge what Randa’s true talents are. We have seen her takedown opponents, submit and lay down some ground and pound but we haven’t really seen how good her stand up striking is or what level her takedown defense is. This is partially why Miesha Tate feels that she is better in all areas of the game as she has been doing MMA longer.
A lot of fighters have underestimated Miesha Tate and have paid for it. Tate isn’t as strong, as tall or as good of a striker as some of her opponents but her wrestling and submissions have been proven factors that have helped her overcome fighters who are better than her in certain areas. Meisha is a smart fighter who knows how to use her strengths and takes the fight to the ground if she is losing the stand and bang battle. Along with great wrestling skills, she has taken home noteworthy wins in submission grappling tournaments.
Although Tate has never been submitted before, I am going with Ronda to win. Rousey has beaten fighters who already knew her gameplan coming into the fight and I see her giving Tate her first submission loss or second knockout. These girls are looking to finish their opponent so I don’t see the fight going to the judges.
