Strikeforce Betting Picks: Ronda Rousey vs Sarah Kaufman for the Bantamweight Championship

Strikeforce Betting Picks: Ronda Rousey vs Sarah Kaufman for the Bantamweight ChampionshipStrikeforce: Rousey vs Kaufman takes Saturday 18th August 2012, 10PM ETPT at Valley View Casino Center, San Diego, California.

Women’s MMA (WMMA) is no joke. Sure the number of quality fighters is still small but WMMA is growing around the world. It is plain that for now the best of the best is probably Ronda Rousey.

She knows how to play the publicity game as we all saw as she worked hard to get the fight with Misha Tate, continually calling her out and effectively pushing Sarah Kaufman out of what many thought was her rightful place in the cage with Tate especially as Kaufman had already beaten Tate.

Rousey is a dream come true for Strikeforce, she has brought them more publicity than they could ever have gotten with any of their existing roster. She is a marketers dream, a beautiful, skillful, articulate bundle of fun.

However, of course ultimately what matters is the quality of the product, the quality of the fights and so far the women have ‘brought it’.

Rousey is 5-0 and the total time of her five fights is just 6 minutes 25 seconds, they all ended in Rouseys signature armbar. Anybody who saw the way Tate’s arm was wrecked will be in no doubt that Rousey will do whatever it takes to get that submission, it was not for the squeamish.

Here are the BetDSI Sportsbook’s the latest odds on this fight.

Ronda Rousey -550
Sarah Kaufman +400

Kaufman has much more professional experience than Rousey at 15-1. However, unlike Rousey all but one of her fights has gone past the first round.

There can be no doubting her heart as she has been in more than a few wars, anybody who saw the Kaufam vs Alexis Davis bout on the same card as Tate vs Rousey would have seen a full three round battle which Kaufman won via Unanimous Decision, but, she wore every one of those rounds on her face. She had Davis cut very badly over her eye in the first round but was unable to get a stoppage.

Kaufman has what in boxing is called a ‘punchers chance’. The problem is as we saw with Rousey VS Tate. If the going gets tough in the stand-up Rousey will take you down and nobody will be able to stop her. The recent TUF series where Rousey came in as a guest trainer, showed that even the men respected her takedown skills.

And that ultimately is why she will win, Kaufman can win the stand-up all day but she won’t be able to stop Rousey taking her down and once down it’s just a matter of time.
