On November 3rd of this year, STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier was slated to take on Frank Mir in a match that featured a UFC star crossing over to STRIKEFORCE to challenge a top 5 in the world heavyweight. Alas the injury bug that has afflicted UFC this year has crept over to STRIKEFORCE, as Mir has been forced to pull out due to a knee injury. Though a clear replacement is not out there, STRIKEFORCE is pretty much forced to main event their November offering with Cormier. The big question is who will he face?
One of the names that was mentioned originally, before the UFC stepped up and loaned Mir out, was former UFC champion Tim Sylvia. Sylvia is coming off a no contest in the ONE FC promotion against Andre Arlovski. Im begging the UFC to not take either of these two guys, as both are not equipped to handle Cormier. It is tiring to keep seeing title figfts with 6 to 1 odds or even worse…
Who is left out there for Cormier to legitimately fight?
It is going to take some shuffling, and I am sure that the UFC will not do this, but I would like to see fast rising Stipe Miocic take on Cormier. Both are undefeated, with roughly the same number of fights, both hit very hard and both have a wrestler base, though obviously Cormier is the better wrestler. Miocic would likely be a big underdog as well in this one, but the similarities in skills and experience make it an interesting fight.
Miocic is slated to fight Stefan Struve in an upcoming UFC, so a match would have to be made for the giant heavyweight as well. That could be solved by having Brandon Vera move up to take on Struve. Vera is coming off a solid performance where he extended ‘Shogun’ Rua into the 4th round, and Vera is a guy whose best performances were at heavyweight. It’s another good match.
If they bring back Tim Sylvia, they might as well call Scott Ferrozzo, or possibly look into what Big John Dixson is doing down in Mississippi.
