Strikeforce World Grand Prix Betting Picks – Antonio Silva vs Daniel Cormier

Strikeforce-world-heavyweight-grand-prix-semifinalsStrikeforce Betting Lines at BetDSI Sportsbook:

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva is on the hottest winning streak of his career. He blazed past Andrei Arlovski, Mike Kyle and then became the 2nd person to defeat Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko. As if weighing 264lbs and being 6 feet 4 inches isn’t enough of a threat, Bigfoot is a triple black belt. He holds these belts in BJJ, Judo and Karate.

Silva looked really good in his last fight against Emelianenko. He was able to position himself for side mounts, full mounts, attempt choke holds and a leg lock. Although he got the win, he exhibited three weaknesses: holes in his boxing, speed and cardio.

Daniel “DC” Cormier is an undefeated (8-0) up and coming fighter with potential. He has an NCAA Division I background and has taken home 2 Bronze and 2 Gold medals competing in Olympic freestyle wrestling. His strong wrestling background helped him obtain the Heavyweight titles in both Xtreme MMA and KOTC organizations. Training at the American Kickboxing Academy with the likes of Cain Velasquez, Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck may soon make him a real threat to top heavyweight contenders.

Daniel Cormier is coming off a unanimous decision win against MMA veteran and pro submission wrestler Jeff “The Snowman” Monson. DC played it smart by scoring points with 2-3 takedowns; he did not try to implement any ground and pound because Jeff has a much stronger ground game. The fight was kept standing up but proved to be a boring long drawn out match. Cormier looks to have fast hands but really needs to work on his accuracy and technique. He attempted a lot of flurries against Monson but most didn’t connect; the ones that did lacked power.

Strikeforce Betting Pick: I agree with the MMA Odds makers over at the BetDSI Sportsbook and am giving the advantage to Silva. I see him scoring a win via decision. It’s going to be hard, but not impossible to get Cormier to the ground. Although Silva most likely won’t put DC away he will score enough points to steal the win.
