One of the best parts of the Super Bowl betting is wagering on the various props you’ll run across in the course of the game. One of the most popular props pertains to who will score the first touchdown in the big game. Today, we’ll look at the Baltimore Ravens.
You have to look at Ray Rice, who led the Ravens during the regular season with nine touchdowns and he has scored in each of the last two games – including the first touchdown in Baltimore’s AFC title-game win over New England. If the Ravens are close to the end zone early, they’re going to pound the ball with Rice. However, don’t forget about Bernard Pierce, who has gotten a few more carries in the latter half of the season and he could get into the end zone first as the Ravens run Rice as a decoy due to his pass-catching ability out of the backfield.
Speaking of passing, the Ravens may also allow Joe Flacco to throw the ball in the red zone because the 49ers have one of the best run defenses in the NFL. Rice will be a target and you would also think that Anquan Boldin would be a target as well, but he has three scores in the playoffs and the San Francisco defense may be keying on the physical wideout. Torrey Smith is more of a big-play guy, so he is always a threat, but check out the odds for tight end Dennis Pitta, who has been fantastic in the postseason so far and if the 49ers are focusing on Rice, Boldin and Smith, Pitta could end up open in the end zone, where he has reached in two of the last three games.
