Tennis Betting Prediction: Nikolay Davydenko vs Gilles Simon
October 31st at Valencia Open 500 Nikolay Davydenko (France) will take on 5th seed Gilles Simon (Russia). BetDSI Sportsbook current Tennis Live Lines has Gilles Simon a -210 favorite over Nikolay Davydenko.
Nikolay Davydenko (24-23) has been shooting down in the rankings as of lately, since his lone title win this year back in May 1st, he has been losing at an alarming rate. He has 10 losses this year in the opening round of a tournament, and has lost as many games on a hard surface as he has won (16-16). This year he has been defeated by a who’s who list of the best in the world Novak Djokovic, Mardy Fish, Janko Tipsarvevic, Tomas Berdych, and Roger Federer.
Davydenko does not have a huge win since he defeated Radek Stepanek and Marin Cilic both in two sets back in April, when he won the BMW Open in Germany. His biggest win since the BMW Open, was back in August at the US Open against ranked #35 Ivan Dodig (Croatia).
Gilles Simon (39-25) has two titles on the year, the first of which was at Medibank International in Australia where he defeated 3rd seed Ernests Gulbis (Latvia) in the Semi-Finals, then defeated 4th seed Viktor Troicki for the title. His second title of the year came back in July at the Hamburg German Open (Germany), where he defeated 1st seed GAel Monfils (France) in the quarter-finals, 4th seed Mikhail Youzhny (Russia) in the semi-finals, then 3rd seed Nicolas Almargro (Spain) for the championship.
Gilles Simon holds some huge wins under his belt in recent tourneys against the likes of: Janko Tipsarevic (Servia), David Ferrar (Spain), and Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina). Although there is cause for concern with his back to back losses to little known Matthew Ebden, and ranked 86 Adrian Mannarino (France).
My Prediction: I think with the the way Gilles Simon excels on the hard surface (22-14), and coming off back to back losses (both in the opening round) that he will play exceptionally hard in this tourney. I think this will definitly be a hard fought matchup between Gilles and Nikolay Davydenko, but I think Simon does just enough to pull off a victory in this opening round of the Valencia Open 500.
