The Dallas Cowboys Have A Lot Of Needs To Address
The Dallas Cowboys will have a busy off-season either re-signing their own or filling in holes as they now have twelve unsigned free agents. This comes after cutting ties with four players and already re-signing three.
Dallas managed to bring back their biggest player about to hit free agency linebacker Anthony Spencer who last year had 95 tackles, 11 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and 7 stuffs. They also kept center Phil Costa who started three games last season and linebacker Ernie Sims who played in 10 games making 43 tackles and a sack for the boys in 2012.
Their best pick-up so far would easily be LB Justin Durant from the Detroit Lions who is a tackling machine. Last year Durant played all 16 games for the Lions making 103 tackles, 7 stuffs, and 3 passes defended. Another new face is safety Will Allen who has been plagued with injuries the past two seasons, but he has over a decade in the league and if can stay healthy the Cowboys added a veteran presence for peanuts.
Among the departed players are DE Marcus Spears who is now with the Ravens, LB Dan Connor who is with the Giants, WR Kevin Ogle Tree went to Tampa Bay, and TE John Phillips settled down in San Diego. Add Felix Jones to this list as it is highly unlikely the running back ends up back in Dallas having never lived up to being a first round pick.
With owner Jerry Jones trying to play GM over the years the Cowboys have glaring needs at a few positions including defensive tackle, cornerback (even after getting Brandon Carr and drafting Morris Claiborne who did not live up to the hypse last season), badly need help at safety, could use more than one offensive linemen, and a good third receiver.
Come draft time the Cowboys could go a number of ways depending what talent falls to them at 18th in the draft. It would be hard to imagine the Cowboys passing on guard Chance Womack should he fall that far , every year Romo nearly gets killed behind an offensive line that is a mess. DT’s Sheldon Richardson and Jonathan Hankins are also two that could fall to 18th and would be great additions to the Cowboys.
