The Los Angeles Lakers Travel To San Antonio For Game One Against The Spurs
Tonight the second and seventh seeds of the Western Conference face off when the Los Angeles Lakers travel to take on the San Antonio Spurs. With the loss of Kobe Bryant the Lakers will find winning even more difficult on the road and this has them listed as huge dogs against the Spurs.
The loss of Kobe Bryant rocked the sports world last week as the star went down with a leg injury. Now the Los Angeles Lakers are forced to pick up the pieces and carry on as they won some tough fought games to get to the playoffs without him. LA went 45-37 during the regular season but had difficulty winning on the road with only 16 victories away from home.
With Bryant gone Dwight Howard has stepped up and being their leading scorer (17 ppg), rebounder (12 rpg), and defender (2.45 bpg) they will be on his back in their attempt to advance in the playoffs. Behind Howard in scoring is Paul Gasol (13.7 ppg), Steve Nash (12.7), Metta World Peach (12.4), and Antwawn Jamison (9.4).
The San Antonio Spurs were a tough team to beat this year going 58-24 giving teams fits at home with a 32-9 record in Texas. Future Hall Of Famer Tim Duncan after 15 seasons in the league is still a stud averaging 17.8 ppg and almost 10 reounds per contest.
Leading the Spurs in scoring is once again PG Tony Parker with 20.3 ppg and also leads his team in assists with 7.6 apg. The spurs are deep behind Parker and Duncan with a bunch of scorers including Kawhi Leonard (11.9 ppg), Manu Ginobili (11.8 ppg), Danny Green (10.5 ppg), and Tiago Splitter (10.3 ppg). They are certainly deeper in the scoring department than the Lakers with Kobe gone, if they can keep the Lakers defense running they will be in a good position to win.
This could be the upset of the first round with the San Antonio Spurs heavy favorites the Los Angeles Lakers may just be a good play to win this series. As for this contest I believe the Spurs will win game one against the Lakers and have a good shot of covering the spread.
